SPT strikes overall deal with Jason Ning, preps ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ series
Sony Pictures Television (SPT) has struck an overall deal with Lucifer exec producer Jason Ning, who has a TV version of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in the works with the US studio.
The proposed show is based on Wang Dulu’s novel of the same name, which became a global hit in 2000 after being adapted into a movie by Ang Lee.
Ning is also working on adaptations of other books from Dulu’s Crane Iron series, which explore ancient Chinese warriors and were first published in the 1930’s.
Sony produced and distributed the Ang Lee movie and recently re-acquired rights to the IP after striking a first-look deal with Vertigo, according to US trade Deadline, which broke the news.
The producer has previously worked on Mrs Davis for Peacock and The Brother’s Sun for Netflix, both of which will debut this year, as well as SPT’s Silk: Spider Society.
