Netflix expands sports doc slate with FIFA & Six Nations series

Netflix has commissioned two new sports-focused docuseries based around the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Six Nations international rugby tournament.

Produced by Fulwell 73, the untitled FIFA World Cup series, will debut this summer, and follows on from previous series The Captains, which followed players throughout qualifications for the competition.

This follow-up is a partnership between Netflix and FIFA+ that gives behind-the-scenes access and exclusive footage around all the 32 teams taking part.

Meanwhile, Six Nations (working title) is expected to launch on Netflix in 2024 and will go behind the scenes of this year’s Guinness Six Nations Championship.

Produced by Box to Box Films, which is also behind Formula 1: Drive to Survive for the streamer, the series will give fans an exclusive insight as the best teams in Europe battle it out in some of the biggest matches in the rugby calendar to take home the prestigious trophy.

These two new orders join a slate of previously announced upcoming sports-focused factual titles including golf doc Full Swing, Archewell Productions’ Heart of Invictus and the fifth season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive.
