Sunnyside unveils 2023 Global Pitch selection
French factual market Sunnyside of the Doc has announced the official selection of this year’s Global Pitch.
The 2023 edition of the Global Pitch is focused on stories and narratives highlighting the societal, economic, political, geostrategic and human issues of climate change, and the concrete solutions implemented around the world.
The 12 titles selected for this year’s pitch are The C Word, produced by Northern Picture in Australia and directed by Tosca Looby; Capturing Water, produced by Uhuru Production in South Africa and directed by Rehad Desai; Climate Justice, produced by Seppia in France and directed by Zouhair Chebbale & Léa Ducré; Standing Up, produced by State of Mic in Gambia and directed by Babucarr Manka and Intoxicated – How To Avoid The End Of The World, produced by Small Boss in Italy.
Also chosen were Their Present Is Our Future: Saleem And Climate Adaptation, produced by Pulp Films in France and directed by Emmanuel Cappellin; Future Home, produced by Terra Mater Studios & Amberjack Films in Austria, and directed by Any Byatt; Porto Central, produced by Storyhouse in Belgium and directed by Daniel Lambo; Fight For Food, produced by Rada Studios in Kenya and directed by Maia von Lekow, Christopher King & Zippy Kimundu; Flying Green, produced by Vidicom Media in Germany and directed by Peter Bardehle; Everything Is Fine (working title), produced by Banyak Films in the UK and directed by Rich Felgate; and Ojos De Agua, Free The Water Of Chile, produced by Dryades FIlms in France and directed by Marcelo Lara & Marion Esnault.
The two half-day online event brings together international documentary makers around engaged themes each year. Following the call for entries launched last October, 100 projects were received from 37 countries.
During the two days, the 12 selected projects will have the opportunity to pitch in front of more than 100 decision-makers from companies including National Geographic, Netflix, ABC Australia, PBS, ZDF Studio, Paramount Pictures, BBC, Arte, France TV, SVT Sweden, Off the Fence, Sundance and RTBF.
A jury of industry experts consisting of Khadidja Banouataf from Impact Social Club, Keisha Knight of IDA, Cleo Veger from Dogwoof and Julian Etienne of Doc Society, will select the winning project, which will receive a cash prize of €3,000 ($3,246).
