Netflix & Mediapro alum joins Spain’s iZen to fuel international scripted
Juliana Barrera, Netflix’s former originals chief in Spain, has resurfaced at Newen-owned Spanish production group iZen.
She will oversee iZen’s scripted projects and its international strategy, working with the group’s chiefs, Jose Velasco and Sara Fernández-Velasco.
Barrera has worked in the business for two decades and was most recently leading Netflix originals in Spain, having previously been named head of content for The Mediapro Studio in Colombia and Mexico in 2019.
She has previously worked on shows such as Primate and Ritmo Salvaje, and with streamers including Amazon Prime Video and Disney+, as well as Lat Am service Pantaya.
Barrera said: “You rarely find a company with a professional identity similar to your own and that is the case here – a production company with experience in a diversity of genres, formats and production styles. I cannot think of a better place to continue expanding my career than with Jose, Sara and their talented team.”
iZen was founded two decades ago by Jose Velasco and is home to companies including Zebra Producciones, Europroducciones, Boca a Boca, Hill Valley, Proima and Newco in Spain.
The group also houses Imagic TV in the Middle East, as well as Chalkboard TV, Storyboard Studios and more recently launched Clapperboard in the UK.
