BentFrame & Cineflix go ‘Looking For Jane’ in novel adaptation
Canada’s BentFrame Film & TV and Cineflix Studios have partnered to adapt author Heather Marshall’s novel Looking For Jane for the screen.
Celeste Parr (Ethel, This Life) is attached as creator and showrunner on the series, which tells the stories of three women whose lives are bound together by a long-lost letter and a secret network of women fighting for the right to choose.
Spanning six decades and multiple timelines, Looking For Jane is inspired by true stories of the real-life Jane Collective that provided safe but illegal abortions under the constant threat of police raids and imprisonment.
Zach Marcovici will produce for BentFrame, with Sonia Hosko and Brett Burlock as executive producers for Cineflix Studios. Adrienne Mitchell will also executive produce and serve as lead director of the adaptation.
Cineflix Media has a first-look deal with Mitchell and her BentFrame Film & TV, which she launched last year, following Cineflix’s acquisition of her previous firm Back Alley Films – the Coroner producer that she co-founded in 1989 with Janis Lundman.
Celeste Parr said: “To be entrusted with this courageous, deeply emotional, and urgently-needed story by Heather Marshall is a waking dream. It’s my great privilege to join forces with Adrienne and Zach, with whom I instantly connected through our shared vision to bring this series to a global audience and celebrate those who have fought and continue to fight for reproductive justice for all.”
