SyFy Germany acquires Electric Entertainment’s ‘The Ark’
NBC Universal Global Networks Germany has acquired the pay-TV rights to the sci-fi series The Ark, with the show to be broadcast on SyFy in German-speaking territories.
Produced by LA-based Electric Entertainment, the series takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonisation missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race.
The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.
The 12-episode series debuted on SyFy in the US on 1 February and has also sold to Spain, France, Portugal, The Balkans, Romania and Poland in previous deals.
Karin Schrader, VP of programming & acquisitions at NBC Universal Global Networks Germany, said: “Sci-fi programs translate extremely well worldwide, especially those that are created by two of the most legendary producers in science-fiction – Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner.”
The Dean Devlin-led Electric Entertainment, which is also behind series such as The Librarians and Leverage: Redemption, expanded its production arm last week, with the promotion of Mark Franco to head of production and new appointments to the team.
