ITV America & Good Company produce ballroom docuseries under new funding model
US production group ITV America and New York- and LA-based Good Company have partnered on a factual series exploring ballroom culture, which has been financed under a new production model.
The eight-part Category Is (working title) has already been filmed and was funded by an unnamed a third party, with the series marking the first project under a new model in which the partners are financing and producing projects before shopping them to potential buyers.
The docuseries explores the ballroom scene via New York’s House of Miyake-Mugler and, led by exec producer Yusef Williams, explores follows the personal and professional lives of nine members of this all-Black and queer “chosen family.
Power struggles, romance and interpersonal rivalries abound as they battle to make names for themselves in the House, the ballroom scene and around the world, smashing stereotypes and overcoming adversity. LoïcMaes directs, while Brandon Panaligan serves as showrunner and Ari Kolber is co-executive producer.
ITV America, part of ITV Studios, consists of six production labels, including ITV Entertainment, Leftfield Pictures, Sirens Media, Thinkfactory Media, High Noon Entertainment and Good Caper Content. Its titles Queer Eye for Netflix, Love Island for Peacock, Hell’s Kitchen for Fox and The Chase for ABC.
Good Company, meanwhile, is behind music videos for artists such as Beyoncê, Adele and Madonna, as well as ad campaigns for the likes of L’Oreal and Tom Ford.
