Tiger Aspect ups drama chief to MD, hires Sky Studios’ ‘Chernobyl’ producer
Banijay UK scripted label Tiger Aspect has upped head of drama Lucy Bedford to managing director of the company.
Reporting to Banijay UK CEO Patrick Holland, Bedford takes on the role with immediate effect and will now be responsible for the creative leadership of the firm, which is behind titles including Peaky Blinders, Man Like Mobeen, Bad Education, Mr Bean and Murder in Successville.
She will work closely alongside David Simpson, head of comedy, who will report to Bedford, as well as new hire Gabriel Silver, formerly director of drama commissioning at Sky Studios, whom she has named as creative director of drama in her first appointment.
Silver, who worked on titles including Chernobyl, Gangs Of London and Britannia, will help steer overall strategic direction for Tiger Aspect’s drama slate while working as an executive producer on certain projects. Prior to Sky, he held roles at Left Bank Pictures and Kudos.
Bedford joined Tiger Aspect as an executive producer in 2014, before being promoted to head of drama in 2019. During her tenure, she has worked on titles including The Good Karma Hospital for ITV, Domina for Epix and Sky and the upcoming Three Little Birds for ITV and BritBox.
Prior to Tiger Aspect, she was an executive producer at Ecosse Films, working on titles including BBC show Mistresses, and also spent 10 years within the comedy and drama department at Granada Television.
She will continue to work in partnership on the commercial and operational business growth strategy with chief commercial officer Zoe Brown and chief operating officer Helen Wright, both of whom will remain in their current roles.
Holland said that Bedford is an “exceptional creative leader who has brought great clarity and purpose to the Tiger Aspect development slate,” adding: “With Three Little Birds and the second series of Domina soon to deliver, she’s responsible for major shows with phenomenal creative ambition.”
