Netflix lands NFL docuseries with Patrick Mahomes & Peyton Manning prodcos
Netflix has revealed its latest sports docuseries, this time a show tracking American football stars from the NFL that will be exec produced by Patrick Mahomes’ new label.
NFL: Quarterback will feature exclusive access to Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota from the beginning of the 2022 season to its conclusion, following them on and off the field.
It will premiere in summer 2023 and comes after the NFL, for the first time, allowed quarterbacks to be mic’d up for every game of a season.
NFL Films produces alongside Mahomes’ 2PM Productions and Omaha Productions, the latter founded by NFL veteran Peyton Manning. He exec produces for Omaha, while Ross Ketover, Pat Kelleher and Keith Cossrow are attached for NFL Films.
Mahomes, who plays for Kansas City Chiefs, said: “From welcoming home a new baby in the middle of the season to welcoming the Lombardi trophy back to Kansas City, our crew was there for it all. This new Netflix series will show the time, preparation and balance that it takes to be an NFL quarterback and perform on the biggest stage.”
Ketover added: “NFL Films and Netflix share a passion for dynamic storytelling, and the opportunity to continue our strong relationship with Peyton and Omaha Productions is one we are incredibly enthusiastic about. We are especially grateful to Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota for granting us an extraordinary view of what it takes to play quarterback in the NFL.”
Sports docuseries have become a flagship genre for Netflix over the past year. Earlier this month, the streamer ordered a show exploring Spanish football competition La Liga and in January series about the FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the Six Nations international rugby tournament were confirmed.
Other sports-focused titles include golf doc Full Swing, Archewell Productions’ Heart of Invictus and the fifth season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive.
