Paramount alum Laura Abril lands at Buendia Estudios
Spanish production company Buendia Estudios has appointed former Paramount exec Laura Abril as EVP scripted and global business development.
Reporting directly to CEO Ignacio Corrales, Abril will take oversight of the scripted division and a team of producers, as well as seeking to expand the business into international markets.
Abril stepped down as SVP & head of VIS EMEA and Asia for Paramount International Studios last month, having initally joined Viacom in 2009.
She remained with the US studio after Viacom merged with CBS to form ViacomCBS (now known as Paramount) and worked across its Viacom International Studio production business in Europe, including overseeing its expansion in Spain four years ago.
Abril, who also headed up Paramount’s streaming and network operations in Spain and Portugal, has worked across Paramount shows including Bosé and Las Invisibles.
Led by Corrales, Buendia Estudios launched in 2020 and is behind titles including the recently debuted HBO Max series Pobre Diablo, as well as Veneno, Cardo and Offworld.
“The incorporation of Laura Abril to the company is a planned step within the strategic development of Buendía” said Corrales. “In a sector in continuous transformation and with great competition, the incorporation of specialized and experienced professionals is key.”
