Amazon takes 1999 movie ‘Cruel Intentions’ to series
Amazon has ordered an adaptation of 1999 movie Cruel Intentions.
The eight-part series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios and Original Film, the banner of Neal H. Moritz who produced the movie. Phoebe Foster and Sara Goodman are writing.
The show is to be set at a college in Washington DC and will follow two ruthless step siblings who will go to great lengths to stay on top of the social pyramid.
The adaptation was originally set at Amazon Freevee (then called IMDb TV) in 2021, although it could debut on Prime Video according to US-based TV Line, which broke the news. Amazon did not comment.
The 1999 movie was itself based on the 1782 novel Les Liaisons Dangereuses, written by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos.
TV adaptations have been in the works previously, including in 2016 when the show went to pilot with NBC but did not progress. Fox also attempted a remake more than a decade ago, whihc did not make it to screen.
