Exclusive: OneGate Media lands global rights to German drama ‘Generation Now: Today For Tomorrow’
Distributor OneGate Media has secured world distribution rights for German drama series, Generation Now: Today For Tomorrow.
The 6 x 45-minute drama is from Viafilm and was produced for German broadcasters MDR, ARD Degeto and NDR. The series is funded by FFF-Bayern and Nordmedia.
The show stars Franziska Weisz (The Swarm) and has been created by Christian Schiller and Marianne Wendt, with Charlotte Rolfes (Tatort) directing.
It takes a modern stance on environmentalism and the ongoing conflict between different generations, exploring what happens when teenagers Jana and Vanessa find themselves at the centre of a political uproar that leads to rioting.
Grappling with their own family relationships and worldviews, as well as their determination to fight for a better world, the groups must decide how far they’re willing to go for their own future and what kind of world they want to live in.
Tania Reichert-Facilides, MD of OneGate Media, said: “As we continue to expand the variety of genres on our slate, we are thrilled to introduce Generation Now: Today for Tomorrow, a compelling new drama series that explores the timely and universal themes of intergenerational conflict, masterfully told from two perspectives, and environmental activism. We are excited to bring this thought-provoking series to a global audience and share this captivating story.”
Benedikt Böllhoff, MD and producer of Viafilm, added that Generation Now: Today For Tomorrow had been its “biggest serial work to date: and told a “gripping story of generational conflict against the background of ecological and social tensions.”
