‘Show Must Go On’ wins MIPFormats Pitch
Show Must Go On has won the 2023 MIPFormats Pitch presented by MIPTV and Fox Alternative Entertainment.
The pitch from Turkish company Formatworkshop was chosen from the five finalists who all presented original unscripted entertainment formats on stage in the Palais des Festivals to a jury chaired by Allison Wallach, president of unscripted programming at Fox Entertainment, at the Cannes market.
A prize of $5,000 for development was presented to Formatworkshop, who also now have the opportunity for Show Must Go On to be pitched to global buyers as part of Fox’s $100m International Unscripted Format Fund.
Wag & Insight TV ink FAST deal
Wag Entertainment has inked a multi-title deal with Insight TV for 40 hours of science and technology content to run on its FAST channels in Canada, US, UK, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, the Nordics, the Netherlands, Poland, Latin America, and India.
Titles in the deal include Wag Entertainment shows Combat Countdown (12 x 45-minutes) for Military Channel, which reveals the world’s best, most cutting edge military hardware from tanks and jet fighters to warships and heavy artillery; Heavy Metal Monsters 6 x 30-minutes The Weather Channel, showcasing the machines which tackle the toughest jobs on the planet, in the harshest conditions; and World’s Best Electric Cars (1 x 60-minutes), from BriteSpark Films for Channel 5.
Janice Strangward, SVP sales and acquisitions at Wag Entertainment, said: “Increasing IP monetisation through sales to the growing number of FAST channels around the world is a key area of growth for Wag and the producers we represent at the moment.”
Escapade to shop Spice Trails: Latin America
Escapade Media has secured rights to lifestyle culinary travelogue series The Spice Trails: Latin America for UK, Ireland, France and French-speaking territories, Australia, New Zealand & Pacific Island countries.
The 12 x 30-minute series, which is a co-production between Zee Plus and TelevisaUnivision, travels through Mexico, Panama, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile & Argentina, uncovering the spices unique to Latin America, while also showcasing the landmarks of these countries.
