Nutopia hires Lion TV & Raw alum Tom Watt-Smith to drive docuseries & formats
Nutopia has appointed former Lion TV exec Tom Watt-Smith to a newly created position working across its docuseries and returning formats slate.
Watt-Smith becomes creative director of formats & special projects at Nutopia and will be based in London, reporting into chief creative officer, Simon Willgoss, and CEO, Jane Root.
Prior to joining Nutopia, Watt-Smith had been a director and executive producer at Raw and Studio Lambert.
He joined Lion TV in 2019 as creative director overseeing premium and specialist factual, working on docs including the BBC’s Stolen: Catching The Art Thieves, Saving Venice for PBS and Arte, and Arctic From Above for Sky and NBC.
Willgoss said Watt-Smith would “lead our charge into new markets and genres, as well as bolster our relationships and operations in the UK.”
Watt-Smith added: “It’s been a huge privilege working at Lion TV, but the chance to join Jane and her team at this exciting moment in Nutopia’s evolution is an opportunity that was impossible to turn down.
“The scale and ambition of Nutopia’s projects is legendary and I feel honoured to join in the next chapter of their story. I cannot wait to get started.”
