Double wins for ‘I Am Ruth’ & ‘The Traitors’ at Bafta TV Awards

I Am Ruth

Channel 4 drama anthology instalment I Am Ruth was among the biggest winners at the 2023 TV Bafta Awards, the annual event that celebrates the best of UK programming and performances.

Produced by Me+You Productions and created by Dominic Savage, the show won the accolade for Best Single Drama, with star Kate Winslet also taking the title for Best Actress.

Best mini-series, meanwhile went to BBC3 musical drama Mood from Bonafide Films, which recently struck a development deal with BBC Studios.

Caviar, Merman and ABC Signature’s Irish black comedy for Apple TV+, Bad Sisters, won the title of best Drama Series, while Hat Trick Productions’s Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls won best Scripted Comedy.

Ben Whishaw, meanwhile, took the title for Best Actor for his performance in BBC One medical comedy-drama This Is Going To Hurt, and Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story took best International show.

Over in unscripted, Studio Lambert’s UK version of The Traitors reality format was named best Reality and Constructed Factual show, also picking up the best Entertainment Performance award for show host Claudia Winkleman.

Bandicoot’s The Masked Singer reality singing competition meanwhile took best Entertainment Programme, while Sky Crime show Libby, Are You Home Yet? was named best Factual Series.

Other winners included BBC iPlayer’s Russia 1985-1999: Traumazone, which took the Specialist Factual award; E4’s How To Be A Person, which was named best Short Form Program and BBC One’s The Real Mo Farah, which was awarded as best Single Documentary.
