FX orders new ‘Peep Show’ pilot from ‘Atlanta’ exec
US network FX is making another attempt to adapt UK scripted comedy series Peep Show.
Atlanta and What We Do in the Shadows executive producer Stefani Robinson will write a pilot, which follows an aborted effort by FX to bring the show to the US in 2019, with a script then in development from Superstore writer Karey Dornetto.
This version will follow two female leads, unlike the original, which starred David Mitchell and Robert Webb, and was created for the UK’s Channel 4 by Succession creator Jesse Armstrong and his writing partner Sam Bain.
It will follow “the relationship between a long-suffering assistant and her boss, an emotionally unstable tech entrepreneur.”
FX said the pilot will “take inspiration” from the original show, which followed Mitchell and Webb’s characters, two dysfunctional Londoners whose thoughts were expressed as voice-overs and whose everyday misadventures were show from a POV perspective.
FX Productions will produce the pilot, which Robinson will write and executive produce alongside Dianne McGunigle (Atlanta), Armstrong and Bain. Hannah Mackay and Ben Farrell from Objective Fiction, which produced the original show, will also EP.
Peep Show was Channel 4’s longest-running comedy, with nine seasons broadcast between 2003 and 2015.
The Disney-owned network isn’t the only one to have taken a stab at a US adaptation, with Starz working on a remake in 2016, Spike in 2008 and Fox ordering a pilot with The Big Bang Theory’s Johnny Galecki, back in 2005.
