Hulu & 20th TV pair with Fox’s Bento Box on Dan Levy’s animation ‘Standing By’
Disney and NBCUniveral-owned streamer Hulu has ordered an animated comedy from Schitt’s Creek’s Dan Levy and Ally Pankiw.
Standing By is being produced by Disney-owned 20th Television Animation and “is about the hilarity, embarrassment and melodrama of everyday life as observed by a team of judgmental, gossip-starved guardian angels,” Pankiw and Levy said.
20th Television Animation is working with Fox-owned Bento Box Entertainment on the show, which will be exec produced by Levy via his Not A Real Production Company banner under his previous overall deal at ABC Signature. Danielle Uhlarik is showrunner.
The series features voiceover talent including Levy, David Tennant, Natalie Palamides, Glenn Close, Poppy Liu and Samira Wiley.
Hulu has become a regular buyer from sibling 20th Television Animation, following pick-ups for Solar Opposites, Futurama and Koala Man, which premieres 9 January.
The streamer also took exclusive US SVOD rights to Canadian comedy series Schitt’s Creek from Netflix in April, with all six seasons moving to the OTT service. Levy had struck a scripted deal with Netflix a year previous.
