The CW acquires Canadian comedy ‘Son Of A Critch’
The CW Network has picked up Canadian comedy series Son Of A Critch.
The 13-part first season first aired on CBC last year, with a second launching in January. Season one will come to The CW this summer.
Hailing from comedian, actor and writer Mark Critch and based upon his memoirs, the show follows the story of a young Mark coming of age in the 1980s, with Crick playing his own father in the show.
The series offers a window into the life of a child – who is much older inside than his 11 years – using comedy and self-deprecation to win friends and connect with the small collection of people in his limited world.
The cast also includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Claire Rankin, Sophia Powers, Mark Rivera and Malcolm McDowell.
Critch created the show alongside Tim McAuliffe, while Andrew Barnsley is producing the series, which is a co-production between Barnsley’s Project 10 Productions Inc. and Take the Shot Productions in association with CBC and Lionsgate Television, which handles worldwide distribution rights.
“Andrew and I had a ton of fun and success together on Schitt’s Creek, and I can’t wait for everyone to see his newest hilarious and heartwarming series,” commented Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment at The CW Network.
The acquisition follows The CW’s move to expand its international offering under the content strategy implemented by new owners Nexstar Media Group, with British thriller The Rising among other recent scripted deals.
Last week also saw The CW rescue former HBO Max unscripted series F-Boy Island for a third season, while expanding the franchise to include a spin-off, to be known as F-Girl Island.
